Red Geranium Cottage

Nothing much over here!

How's your New Year going?  So far so good over here.  But we're only 6 days into it so I won't get too excited.  

Today is my wonderful Mother in law's birthday. We miss her so much.  She was the best lady, and the best gramma to both of my boys.  Wasn't she pretty?  

Today is also the day that Hunka and I first met in San Diego.  25 years ago.  Who knew time would fly by so fast?   Yep we met on his momma's birthday.  At least we never forget the date right? 

My poor Pfaff had to go to the sewing machine doctor.  I turn her on and she has a seizure for about 20 min. I just couldn't stand to watch her anymore suffer like that.  Yesterday we dropped her and it was a sad day for me. I'll have to wait for two weeks before I get to see her again.  :(    Oh yes I have other machines. Lots of them matter of fact, but none stand up to my Pfaff.  I've probably had her for over 24 years.  Hunka bought her for me at a Home & Garden show in Ca.  That machine is a work horse.  Do you have a favorite machine like that at your house?  

I wanted to show you a couple things I got for Christmas.  One is a quilt and pillow cases that Nancy made me.  

Isn't it cute? I think I'm the one in the middle with the red dress on and she is the one standing next to me with the green skirt on. 

And King Sized pillow cases to match.

Beth made this one for me.  Sooo cute.  Love Civil War fabric.

While I'm showing quilts I thought I'd show these again.  Hunka made this quilt hanger to fit in a hallway when we lived in Ca. We brought it with us and it fit perfectly at the bottom of our stairs going into my sewing rooms.

These are two little mini's I made. Not too hard but fun to make and quilt.  I'm into the mini's now.  I'm running out of room for quilts in this house.  My boys have so many they say, NO MORE!!   All I can hope for is a couple daughter in laws that will want them.  

That's about all I have for now.  Not a lot going on over here.  I'm still taking down Christmas and putting it away.  Bringing out my Valentine decor too.  It's always fun to see it after a year of hiding.

 I want to show you hunka's newest creation. He made this shelf drawer thingy.  Not sure what to call it. One of my customers asked if he could make it and dang it now I don't know who asked.  lol Story of my life.

More Market Monday

So let's see where did we leave off....

Oh yes, The sweet Darlene Zimmerman.  Love her things.  And her Clothesline Club.  Isn't that little quilt cute?

See that basket in front of the quilt? Those red boxes? Everyone who came to her Schoolhouse got one of those and it had little charm packs of the four different lines of fabric from Robert Kaufman.  Soooooo cute.  What a great gift.  Darlene even signed mine and Nancy.  We had to ask you know we did.  :-)  We couldn't help ourself we were right there in the front row. 

Love this one too. Oh heck I love them all.  Can't go wrong with the 30's can you?

We left Schoolhouse early to go get in line for Sample Spree.  I guess we ditched school you could say.  But it was for something more fun.Isn't that why you usually cut school???  And look who found us.  Cara!!  That girls is crazy!  Oh sure she's saying the same about us but I said it first!!  lolol  We had so much fun with her.  We spent way tooooo much time together.  I'm just sayin.

Ok we had enough shopping for one day and decided to take a Margarita break.  Man oh man do they know how to make some happy uh strong Margaritas in Texas.  WHOA BABY!  And yes I'll have three. Why not?

Or as it four?????   I lost count after that first one.

And I doubt she's going to be of any help to us.  

After some much needed sleep we were raring to go again the next morning.  Look who we found. That cutie Rosalie Quinlan. She is adorable and don't you love her smile??  I could squeeze her but I didn't want to embarrass myself.  

Loved everything in her booth.  I now have several of her patterns on my website.  

Here we were in Lynette Andersons booth. Loved everything here too. Even her hubby.  What a charmer he was.  He had Nancy and I laughing!!

Lynnette's newest book. Gathering of Crows is wonderful. So many great projects in this.  And yep you guessed it, it's on the website. 

Awwwww  cute.  Seriously Lynette is the nicest person.  She's another one we could listen to talk all day long.  But we didn't want to wear out our welcome in her booth. We would be tagged as stalkers I'm afraid.

Back to Paducah we go for some food and Tara's booth

A girls gotta eat and feed the hungry man that traveled with her.  And boy did we eat. We traveled about 20 miles outside of Paducah I think it was, to a place called Miss Patti's.  I went there several years ago with my  friend Tommye, Vida and Sandy on our first trip to Paducah.  The food was amazing.  Needless to say I wanted hunka to try it too.  Then there's this guy that works with him at his little part time job and he told him...OMG you have to eat at Miss Patti's.  So eat we did.  I think you'll enjoy the pictures. 

 

We of course ate at Patti's not Bill's.  Poor Bill I'm sure his food is good too.  

 

The bathrooms were so neat.  I took a picture for your viewing pleasure while "sitting" if you get my drift. This is the lock on the door.  Isn't that cool?  I loved it. Ok I know it doesn't take much to entertain me.  Go ahead and say it.  

 

Now for some food.

Bread anyone??  Can I just tell you, this bread is to die for!!  And that strawberry butter....OHMYGAWD!!!  

 

Fried dill  pickles perhaps????

 

And now for the main course.  Hunka's pork chop was 2 inches thick.  He was in hog heaven.  The baked potatoes are huge!!!   And that hunk of white stuff on top is all butter! Even hunka didn't eat all that butter and he loves butter.   Not sure who's gonna eat that green stuff lying there when you have a heaping mound of ooey gooey butter.  

 

I had the teriyaki chicken.  I love anything covered in teriyaki.  But honestly that potato almost made me gag.  Does one need that MUCH cheese AND butter??  ICK!!  They must love them some butter in KY.  

 

How about some dessert? They had something on the menu that I wanted to try just because of the name. But we were too full.  I think they named this in  for my Boo.  

 

Let's go back outside because I need to walk off this meal.

Across the street was a shop called, what else?? The Pink Tractor.  Don't ya love it?  Every girl needs a pink tractor.  

 

Back for more shopping and look who I found.  Tara!!!  I met her first at the quilt show in Chicago a couple years ago. She is the nicest gal and has some awesome patterns, kits and a great booth!  

 

I love all her patterns.  I'll just show the pictures and let you enjoy.  You can contact Tara is your interested in any. She has kits for several of them too.  I already bought mine.  :-)

Termites and cookies.

Things are moving right along over here.  We're on countdown mode. 10 more days until packing day.  I still can't believe that.  I remember wondering if this house would even sell.  Now we're in the final stretch.

Tuesday it looked like a scene right out of the movie Mr. Mom around here.  I had the furnace guy, the gardener, the termite guys, the painter guy, and who ever else might have roamed inside.  Remember that new furnace being installed? Well the guy had to come back because of course the first one he installed had a defective board in it.   Tuesday that was fixed, but while the guy was way up there in the attic, all of my smoke alarms began to go off.  Now I was doing some baking but I never saw fire!!!  No smoke.........so I ran to the bedroom and yelled up to Alex.  Nothing, no answer, I was YELLING,  I ran outside where the other guys were working on the house and no one but me was noticing that maybe, just maybe I should call the big red truck.  You know the one that's full of FIREMEN??  I ran back to the bedroom and  decided ok I need to go up this ladder and hope that Alex is not lying there DEAD.  I just knew he was. The smoke alarms were beyond loud.  There were at least six of them going off all at once.   As I was going up and yelling his name, he crawls out.  I say, are you alright????   He says,  Oh I told Dennis that all the alarms would go off because the oil is burning off the new furnace the first time you turn it on.  Well.............Mr. hunka did not tell me that little tidbit.  Later that night I tell hunka and he says, yea he did mention something like that to me.    I'm just glad Alex is still with us. But I really did wanna call that red fire truck.  

Moving right along to the termite work.  They drag this big tube in that room and heat it up.  140 to 160 degrees for two hours.   And whoop no more termites.  Nothing is living in that room anymore. 

 

They covered the dining room glass widows/doors with a heavy canvas so it wouldn't bust.  To that I said thank you.   lol   Don't need to replace glass.  Gotta love that it's red. 

While I was stuck at home all day I decided to bake. What else is a girl to do?? I couldn't sew because that stuff is all boxed up.  Not to mention I had tons of margarine/butter and white/butterscotch/and chocolate chips to use up. So let's bake some cookies.   The worker guys were smelling them.  They kept asking.......are you baking???     I wanted to say , yes get back to work and then I'll give you some cookies.  lol

 

How about some white chocolate chippers with pecans......

 

Perhaps some white chocolate/butterscotch/ and cranberries????

Remember my flag cutting table that hunka and I made??  It had to be dismantled for the move so I took a few pics to show you. I love my table.  Me and the sistas have sure used this while making alot of projects. 

 

This quilt is off to my high school friend that has breast cancer.  I hope it cheers her up a little bit and comforts her.   I love this quilt and hopes she does too.

 

I followed this guy down the road the other day. I'm feeling his pain.   Wonder how many loads he's moved so far??

 

Dumpster #5 filled!!

What a weekend.  We filled our 5th dumpster full of .....crap!!  Today we went thru all the cabinets in our four bathroom. Yes we have four bathrooms to go with the four attic's.  I told hunka we have to take photos for you of our four attics.  You ask and you shall get.   So stay tuned for that. Matter of fact the kids that are going to be living here already told us that they are going to be playing hide and seek up in those attics.  lol  I  say to that...........knock yourself out.   OH not really knock yourself out but knock yourself out. 

Hunka was going thru his stuff in the bathroom cabinets and he finds calamine lotion from 2001 and asks me if it's still good. I say if you want to put it on your body.  Then he finds allergy pills from 2006.......again, if YOU want to take them go ahead.   And it goes on and on and on.  I swear he thinks nothing ever expires.  

While packing and going thru stuff I found some of my quilts that I had forgotten about......

I found these blocks I did along time ago.   

 

I loved these teacups.  I never did finish the whole set.

I made this quilt over 16 years ago at a shop in Northern, Ca. Bad photo of it. I love the quilt. It's really a table topper size.

 

Love this one.

 

 

These last two quilts still need to be finished and then quilted.  This quilt I'm making king size to fit my bed.

 

I found this great stack of fabric.  Ok so it's more than just a "stack".   I think I filled up three totes full of it.  These are the colors I'm doing the new kitchen in. 

 

 

Now for the wonton recipe several of you have been asking for.  You can see a photo of them over at Deb's blog. They are sooooo good.

Hidden Valley Ranch Sausage Stars

2 cups cooked crumbled sausage....if you can find the maple sausage it's the best.

1 1/2 C. grated cheddar cheese

1 1/2 C. grated monterey jack cheese

1 c. prepared Ranch dressing. Do not use the bottled kind make your own from the little packet.

1 pkg wonton wrappers.

cook sausage, drain grease from sausage......mix prepared dressing mix with sausage, and cheese.   take your wonton wrappers and put them in a cupcake or muffin tin......fill each spot with a spoonfuls of the mixture.  Bake at 350 degrees for about 5 to 8 min. or until bubbly.   I'm warning you they are soooo good. You can mix up a batch of the mixture and it keeps for several days.  When you fill like a wonton go in the kitchen and whip yourself up one or ten.   lol    Even if you make all of them up you can freeze them and reheat in the microwave later.  You've been warned!!!! This and a cheeseball..................OH MY GAWD!!!!!!!!!!    HEAVEN........I'm in HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!1

Yummy strawberry shortcake.

 

Time for a full day of sewing!! And sew we did.  All day and night long.  WE got so much done.

 

Debbie and I were making this quilt.  I posted the finished photo on my blog awhile back. I saw it at Kris' shop. Debbie her employee made it and I fell in love with it.  Nancy had already made one so she did a string quilt.

Here's a couple of her string blocks. She got almost the whole thing finished.

 

Here's the one I made a couple years ago. We used 4 1/2 inch squares of muslin as the base then you just sew strips of different sizes to the block.  Very easy.

 

How cute is this? Hunka tool bag and mini me has one too. 

 

The girls took a little trip to the goodwill pile and took what they wanted.  The stuff was everywhere.  Old quilts, dolls, decorating stuff, patterns, kits, and on and on. There cars were loaded when they left.  And guess what? I have new piles for them.

Is that full moon gone?? Is it safe to come out?

I've been in hiding.  That was one wicked full moon.  A bright one for sure and you know your in trouble when it's that bright. Or everyone around you is in trouble. lolol  I don't know where the week went?  Time is just getting away from me lately. Good thing I don't have a job or I'd be in real trouble.  I'm blaming it all on the moon.

This week I met Kris and we went to lunch.  It had been a long, long time since we had the chance to get together. It was so nice to sit and chat with her.  We had a great lunch and of course then I had to go shop at her store and take some photos. Couldn't let you not join in on the fun too.  Kris didn't have any unopened boxes of Mary E. fabric or anything else  for me to sprawl out on for a photo opt I'm sorry to say.  But she did have lots of other goodies to feast your eyes upon. I'm thinking she phoned her UPS guy ahead of time and warned him I'd be in the building. lolol

I am in love with this fabric. I wanted the whole line.  It's just saying SPRING.

 

 

When I saw that dress.........OMG now I really need a granddaughter.  I'm just sayin. It's all Kris' fault this time.  I do have that pattern and now I'm going to make it for #1 "son's" little girl.  Isn't that the cutest? And see those little clothespins? Kris sells those too. How cute would those be in a little girls room?

I'm in love with this quilt. Miss Thimble Mom made it and is teaching it in June I think she said. I've seen this quilt done in several different fabrics but...........this one...........OMG!!

Kris gave me the cutest little bundle of these fabrics. She said it reminded her of me.  And she was right, I love it.  The lady bugs are adorable. And who doesn't love red/white polka dots?

 

Speaking of polka dots she got in this whole arrangement of polka dots in some new colors.  They go all the way around that table.

Sorry to say my tour has come to an end.  I'm working on a block from the BOM that Kris is offering. It's the Apron quilt. Go to her website and check it out. Hopefully tomorrow I can show you my first block. It's really going to be fun.  This is one of the aprons from the pattern.

 Oh and I'll show you the other BOM I've been doing that is houses. I've got three houses ready to be sewn down. 

 I'm really going to try and blog again tomorrow. I've been lacking in the blogging.  Just can't get it together lately. I've been doing quilts too on my Daisy so that's keeping me busy.  And I'm loving it.  So thank you all for sending your quilts to me.  I'm trying to answer your comments and emails to and I'm sorry that I'm slow in getting back to you. I do read all of the emails and I appreciate all of them.

Look............... a little pumpkin!!!!!!

Happy Sunday!!  I can't seem to get back into the groove here.  Once I do get back into it I'll be on the road again.  Three more days till I leave for Houston.  I didn't even bother putting the suitcase away.  I came home took my stuff out , hunka put his stuff in and when he gets back, I'll put my crap back in it once again.  LOL   Talk about a revolving door around here. 

I've got lots to show you from my trip but first I have to show you some photos from my lunch with Cheryl and the star of the show........LUKE.   Her lovely daughter in law Megan came too. It was such a nice afternoon.  We could have talked and cooed over that baby forever.  We were there to celebrate Cheryl's birthday but someone stole the show. 

OMG you tell me that is not the cutest dang baby????  Dont you dare disagree with me.  He is adorable. And what about that HAT???  Grandma Polka Dot brought that for him.  We laughed so hard when Megan put it on him.  It is sooooo cute.   Megan is going to take him to the pumpkin patch and get his photo taken.  Wont that be cute?  Luke is one pretty baby.  

 

Me jealous??? Oh of course not,  huh uh, not me.  OK YES I AM!!!   Megan asked if I wanted to hold Luke?? WHAT are you kidding?? HAND HIM OVER!!!  Do you think they would notice is I slipped out with him??  His pumpkin hat might give us away.  I was in heaven holding this little guy.  Thank you soo much Megan for joining us.

Of course I took photos of what we ate too.  The food was delish.  We went to a place that Megan used to work. I think it was called Martha Greene's.  It was an eating place and a bakery.  I could have taken home one of everything. 

Cheryl had this french toast something that was to die for. 

 

Megan and I had the Reuben sammy.  YUMMY!!! And I had Sweet Potato french fries. Why because my butt isnt quite big enough yet.  Sure throw in some ranch for dipping.  You bet ya!!!! Miss Megan has fruit!!  WHATEVER!!!!   Just kidding Megan.  That's why you look like you do and I..............well you know. 

 

Cheryl gave me some great goodies but I still need to take a few snaps of them.  I'll show tomorrow.   Love everything!!!! 

After lunch with the girls and the little pumpkin I stopped by Nordstroms to see my Sista Deb.  She was busy selling her smell goods.  We sat and chatted for awhile before I headed home.  But tomorrow she and I are going on a little field trip. WOOHOOOOO   Some girl bonding.  

Today I did a little sewing in the room.  Trying to get back into it.  I'd rather just lie down and take a nappy pie. 

Got all the blocks done on this. Now I just need to quilt it.  It turned out pretty good I think. 

 

Then I worked on this one.  Still lots to do on it.

 

And look Wilster took one of my little table topper. And he even used it. OMG  I was shocked.   I loved seeing a quilt on display in that house.  WOOHOOO  I'm making progress.  Shhhhhhh dont tell him. He even saved his pumpkin bucket I sent him last year.  There's hope yet.  Now to work on Boo.  I mean with the name BOO shouldn't you have some Halloweenie decor in your house?? 

 

Hunka and I have some new entertainment in da house. We are WII atticks.  This could be why I'm slow in the blogging area since I've been home.  We are hooked.   Last night Hunka got so into it that he swung his arm around with the remote in his hand and knocked over a big glass of water right into the little drawer of the coffee table.  All the tv remotes were soaked.  All I can say girls is................I'm glad HE DID IT and not me.   Oh lordy could you even imagine if I would have been so stupid as to do that.  Uh did I say stupid??? Oh please forgive me.   But if I would have done it you bet it would have been STUPID.  I'm just sayin.   Yes I would be the stupid one on the left wearing the red dress.  And yes that does say MUFFY.  Alright????   Now you know another one of my secrets.  And I'm just full of em.  I didnt say full of IT I said em!!   Hunka thinks he looks pretty HOT over there in his blue shirt and glasses doesnt he??

An afternoon with No Blog

You thought I mean this blog didn't you???  But I meant NO BLOG as in Nancy. She came by on Sunday to bring me a quilt to quilt and asked if I wanted to go to Trader Joes with her.  Well of course I do.  I hankering for some more pizza dough and that's what she was going for too.  Just pizza dough. 

Ok, so we found some other things we had to have.  We decided to only get one cart cause we weren't getting much.  LOL   We had our stuff all mixed up before we got to the counter.  We were getting two of everything we saw.  If she had it I had to and if I got it of course she needs it too.

Now there's some good looking stuff in that cart.  And yesssss we were needing some wine.  Can't have pizza on the grill without wine can we?   

After she left hubby noticed two bottles of red wine on the counter and asked who that was for.  He drinks red but not that one.  I forget the name.  I said OMG that must be Nancy's.  LOL!!!  I knew that guy would get out stuff mixed up.  Yes let's blame it on the GUY. 

Nancy brought over an antique quilt that she inherited from her hubby's aunt who recently passed away. I told her I must take a snap for my fellow bloggers. I'm here for you I'm just sayin. I couldn't get a full photo cause someone is very short and can't hold it up any higher.   LOL!!!  Isnt it a pretty quilt? And yes that's our dry cleaning lying on the floor over there.

Kimberly over at fatquartershop.com does such a pretty job wrapping when you order a gift from her site. I told Beth I have to wait till my birthday on Mon. to open.  I think the suspense is killing her more than me.  LOL   And speaking of fatquartershop.com they got in the Mary E. Christmas bundles and charms and jelly rolls.  I saw it!!!!!!!!  WOOOHOOOOO    Christmas with Mary E. what could be better?

I've tried to answer a couple emails from gals that had questions but they have been returned to me for some reason so If your waiting for an answer and you've not gotten one, it's not my fault.  I really did try and more than once too.

QUILTS, QUILTS, QUILTS

Ok, I'm gonna try this one more time. I loaded pics of quilts on here and then lost them. So..........here goes again. Well, it looks like it worked this time. I think I should take my pictures outside. The tote bag picture turned out way better than the inside ones. I'll be dragging my quilts outside from now on.
