How about an Easter tutorial???? I've been making these bags for some time and I thought I would give you a tutorial if you wanna make some too. You know how I love making bags. I was in JoAnns one day and saw these cute towels and thought......wait a minute!!! Why can't I use these for little zipper bags???? Of course I can. Then I was on the hunt...........Kohls, Homegoods, Target, and on and on. I hope I left a few for all of you. Sorry if I didn't. :-)
Ok here goes, any questions let me know. I'm not a professional remember, so go ahead try this at home.
First you take your towel, any towel, you can get two little bags out of one towel in some cases, depending on the designs. But I cut this one into two small bags. I used a 9 inch zipper. I don't have exact measurements for you just photos. Well I could have had measurements and no photos. Oh yea now your happy huh?
You start with your towel......duh!!! Can you see already how I can get two out of this one?
I just decide how big I want the bag and cut two pieces, one for the front and one for the back. Again...........duh? Ok I wont say that anymore. :-) But isn't this the cutest dang towel?
Then you want to cut yourself two pieces the same size as the front and back for your lining.
Ok here goes the fun part. You take your "front" and you want to lay the zipper FACE DOWN on the RIGHT side of the front. (Cheryl are you with me so far?)
See face down.
Put on your zipper foot and push the peddle to the medal girlfriends!!! As you get close to the zipper pull just zip or unzip to get it ot of your way.
Now you want to lay your lining "front" face down on top of the "front" of your bag. See it peeking thru?
See,I slid it down so you can see what I'm doing. See the zipper still face down??
Now I flip it over and follow the same sewing line I made when I sewed the "front" to the zipper.
Voilla!!!!! See now you have your two "fronts" the lining and the front of your bag. See that other side of the zipper up in the air?? your going to do the same thing again only with the "back" of the bag and your lining. Don't worry about that zipper hanging off to the side.
Ok so here we go. You want to lay your BACK face down on that zipper. Do you see it?
See, the zipper again is face down but on the BACK this time. Again move that zipper pull out of your way as you sew.
Ok so now lay your BACK lining face down and put the PEDDLE TO THE MEDAL once again.
Seeeeeeeee????????????? are you still with me or have you left me to shop for towels??
Are you ready?????? flip that bad boy over and looky there. You've almost got yourself an adorable little zipper bag. Are you hyperventilating yet?????? I AM!!!
We have a FRONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TA DAAAAA!!!!! We have a lining!!! I hear you screaming over there!!!!
Ok here is where you can trim off that zipper and square up your bag. Or.....you can be like me and trim that zipper and PUT THE PEDDLE TO THE MEDAL!!!!!!!!
Put your two FRONTS together and your two LINING part together. Remember, LISTEN to me..............UNZIP your bag!!!!!!!!! Or you will want to cut off your hand with the rotary cutter at this point because you will NOT be able to turn your bag right side out without undoing all that you have done. Say it with me........UNZIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DUH!!! Ok I know I said I want going to say it again....but this called for a DUH!!!!! Now, remember to leave a small opening in the lining at the bottom for turning your bag right side out. See my two pins on the right???
Ok if you want to put in a little ribbon tag this is the time. Slip it in the side, see it hanging out?? Fold it in half however big you want it, wrong sides out. See the right side?? Any questions?????????
Ok now it's flip time. you wanna reach in that hold you left unsewn and pull........... Here is where you chop off your hands if you didn't unzip that zipper.
Now you wanna sew the little hole closed. Or big hole.............I'm just sayin. And then tuck that bad boy inside that bag. Are you jumping up and down yet?? Well why NOT???
Now isn't that perty???? You should be so proud of yourself. And is this the longest tutorial you've EVER seen?? lololol
Here's some of the towels I've used.
This is one of the Sistas Easter goody bag.
Ok i'm outta room. ENJOY! and I wanna see some bags. Let me know if you liked this and hopefully it makes some sense. If not..........I don't want to hear from you. I'm just sayin.
HUGS and Happy Easter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a zipper foot, who knew ; ) It looks way to complicated for me just learning to sew again. I think you should sell them to people who love them like me but have no clue in life LOL. I hope you have a beautiful Easter!
Hugs,
Kathy

Love the tutorial...I think I will steal some towels from the cupboard to make some bags...
Posted by: Nancy | April 11, 2009 at 07:17 AM
Thanks a million babe! L-O-V-E the bags and the towel idea! I still haven't made a single bag yet, but every time I see yours I make plans to do one...I have tons of plans now with my left over taupes! It's always easier to see how it's done my using pictures as I am a very visual learner!
Question: did the cute sista gift bag get it's angled sides from just squaring off the bottom or do you intentionally angle the sides a bit first? It looks like they get there from squaring the corners...I'll have to try and see!
